Freegshareserver.com is a free file upload server you can use to share your documents, presentations, music, videos and more with family and friends.
This article will teach you how to set up the service on your computer to make sharing as easy as possible for those who need access to your files. The first thing that needs to be done is downloading the server software from the website mentioned above. On a Windows machine I downloaded it as a .zip file and then extracted it into a folder called "frtegshareserver" under my Documents folder. So now I have 2 folders: "Documents" and "frtegshareserver". FreeGshareserver has a few different versions of the server software. The one I installed is the "Server" version which will be used to run an FTP server on my PC so people can connect to it and upload files. The other versions only differ in what they can be used for such as an FTP or HTTP server, or a torrent server. Once you have downloaded the software you will need to set up an account on the Freegshareserver website. The account is free and all you need to create it is an email address. The account must be verified before it can be used but that also only takes a minute or two via email verification. Once the account has been verified you will receive an email with a password and 2 security questions. You can create a new folder on your computer to use as your "upload" folder and the unzipping of the software will create a user interface to upload files using all of these features. The first thing that needs to be done is to add the path where you would like the files to go to in the "Location" tab. This step must be done for both your "upload" and "documents" folders. The final step is to click "Submit" and your account will be active. You can now access the website from any computer on your network and login as the account you created. After you have setup your account, you will need to upload a few documents to see how everything is going to work before uploading large files. To upload a file just select a file from your computer that isn't being downloaded or anything that will slow down the upload process, then navigate to the location of this file in the "Upload Files" tab. Now you can drag and drop the file onto the upload window. The system will immediately begin uploading the file. You can drag and drop multiple files at once, but it is highly recommended to drag and drop them one at a time so the system doesn't try to upload multiple times when it gets confused by incomplete files. Once uploaded, this is how it will look in the "Upload Files" tab [the small icon is a folder]: Now click on your username under "your username" in order to access your account. You will now see all of your uploaded files in a list. For each file you can view any metadata about them such as the size, path, author name, etc.
